Graffiti Photos
bell hooks has four photos of a piece of public art that speaks to her. The snapshots were given to her by the artist after the graffiti was painted over by a construction company and hang in her kitchen. The graffiti in the snapshots reads: "The search for love continues even in the face of great odds" (13). This is an important reminder, not only to hooks but also to readers, that hope is an important aspect in the search for love. Furthermore, these words also reinforce the importance of love, despite much contemporary cynicism about it. These snapshots remind hooks every day that love really can be found.
