Eliza Schuyler

Eliza Schuyler is the heroine of the novel. Prior to meeting Alexander Hamilton, Eliza is the practical middle sister who is more interested in books and the Revolution than dresses and husbands. She spends her free time collecting donations and making uniforms for the soldiers.

When she first meets Alex, she is attracted to him, but she is deeply uncomfortable with the feelings she has for him. Instead of dealing with her attraction, she convinces herself that she hates Alex for delivering the court-martial to her father.

When Eliza leaves home and goes to Morristown to help her aunt inoculate soldiers against smallpox, she meets Alex again. At first, she pretends to still hate him, but she finally relents. She falls in love with him when he shows up and invites her to join him at the infirmary, where they tend to injured soldiers together.
