CHAPTER 1

Emerson, Em, Watts is barely awake as she gets ready to give a two minute oral persuasive speech in Mr. Watts' class. She looks over to see Whitney Roberson gazing at herself in the mirror. The two girls mouth insults as Em gets up to give her presentation. Em's speech is on how education has failed girls and how women don't design video games even though they play them. No one is listening to her, even the teacher. Em even begins to talk about nonsense and no one notices. Em's friend Christopher is sleeping in the back of the room. Whitney is the next to speak. She has the class's attention because she is slim, beautiful and popular. She persuades the class that society doesn't make women feel bad about themselves - that obesity does. She tells the class people...
