Chapters 34-45 Summary

Giles tutors Chester for an hour each day. After the experience with the whale, Una feels a need for Giles and Kit. Giles finally recognizes her.

In chapter thirty-five, there is a storm that night. The captain is on deck so Kit and Giles come to the Captain's stateroom, where Una sleeps with Chester. From there, they go to the blubber room with the food and wine Una took from the kitchen.

Chapter thirty-six has the Sussex sailing through storms. Una is cold and wet like everyone else. Captain Fry ties her to him so she doesn't fall overboard, and then takes her below to Chester. Two men are lost at sea and the ship is damaged, but they make it to the South Pacific.

Another whale is spotted in chapter thirty-seven. The black whale is huge and knocks the men...
