The Agony and the Ecstasy Related Titles
All of Stone's biographies are similar in their use of mixing fact and fiction, and in their development of central characters as strong individuals who fervently pursue their extraordinary gifts, often sacrificing a normal or happy life to fulfill their destinies.
Stone simultaneously attempts to humanize his protagonists while making them larger than life, a technique that is not altogether successful in presenting the historical accuracy of his story but provides flexibility for creating entertaining fiction.
