London

The majority of the novel takes place in London in January-July 2019. Le Carré uses the real life events of Brexit, Trump's visit to the United Kingdom, and Trump and Putin's press conference to provide context for the political setting in which the novel takes place.

The Haven

A substation of the London General Station of the British Secret Service. Nat becomes manager of this station after his posting abroad is done and he comes back to London. The Haven is considered a dumping ground for fifth rate informants and not well respected. However, Florence is considered the hope of the Haven as she is a very intelligent and talented agent-runner. The Haven gains traction during operation Rosebud, which unfortunately ends up being rejected. The station gains traction again due to Operation Stardust, which was launched with information from Sergei, one of the Haven's informants.
