Summary

In Chapter 17, Nat gets home at 6am after being interrogated all night. When he wakes up, Nat is grumpy and rude to Prue. Prue, instead of being angry, asks if the Office fired him. He says yes and Prue says she will support him no matter what, whether he chooses to stay with the Office or quit. Nat feels revitalized by her support.

At 6:00, the doorbell rings. It’s Bryn Jordan’s driver, here to take Nat to Bryn’s house. Nat meets Bryn, who tries to figure out Ed’s motives, posing possibilities and asking Nat what he thinks. Nat says it’s no longer his concern. Bryn asks Nat to report to him and try to turn Ed into a double agent, noting that doing any less would be “disloyal” (228).
