Summary

Harlem, Bradhurst, West 145th Street, Same Day – Jesse Austin and his wife, Anna, meet Jim at their apartment door. Both have aged dramatically. Anna has remained beside her husband despite the rumors and accusations of adultery and the harassment of white girls that have plagued him. Jim gets tough with Jesse, telling him that the FBI knows that the Soviets have been trying to get in touch with Jesse, especially given the student trip. Jim antagonizes the couple by demeaning their looks, but Jesse keeps his calm. He says they no longer have contact with the Soviet authorities, and that they know nothing about the trip.
