The Real Enemy of Math through A Big Growth Year Summary

In "The Real Enemy of Math," Jeffery is at Tad's house studying when Yvonne comes into the room. Tad is rude to her, basically insisting she go get refreshments for them. When she's gone, Jeffery points out that Tad is being mean and asks why he is always so mean to Yvonne. Tad says he's always expected he'll die and that it will be easier for everyone is Yvonne isn't so attached to him when it happens.
