Self-fulfillment

Throughout the characters’ experiences, the narrative explores various characters’ ways of finding self-fulfillment and questions what it is that generates their issues and the best way for them to resolve them.

The central character in the novel searching for self-fulfillment is Linda as she is not happy with her home life and looks for ways to make her overcome her feelings of depression and apathy. She thinks that in order to do this, she needs to take risks and she prides herself for eating in the Japanese restaurant that her friend takes her to, because it is different in that it is not the type of restaurant she would normally eat in, and in having oral sex with Jacob in his office.
