Chapter 27 Summary

Sam is relieved to see his parents, his sister and two Clayr disembark from the Paperwings after they land. Tim points out that the thunder and lightning has stopped. At the same time, Sam sees that fog is thicker and has turned a bright, flame red. As the red fog comes toward them, Sam smells Free Magic, but he also hears Mogget saying that it's him and that he has Nick. Sam sees Mogget in the form of the little albino man he had seen at Red lake carrying a very thin and fighting body that might be Nick.

Nick's body jolts and points back toward the direction from which they had come, and the shard flies out through Nick's finger. Mogget turns back into a cat and Sam tries to use his healing powers to save Nick's dying body. Nick returns to...
