Chapter 21 Summary

Lirael and Dog enter Death. Lirael and Dog get past the First Gate. This is the first time Lirael has ever been this far into Death. She has only her book studies to guide her on which way to go and what to expect.

They get past the Second Gate. As they approach the Third Gate, they hear the wave of water behind them and start to run. They make it out of the Second Gate, through the Third Gate and the Fourth Gate. In the Fifth Precinct, they are attacked by creatures. Dog also goes through a transformation and warns Lirael that he senses something is behind them.
