Chapter 15 Summary

The guards at the wall sense something out in No Man's Land. They see what they think are two soldiers with a sniffer dog. One of the soldiers casts out a spell of magic that sheds light on the incoming strangers. The soldiers agree that they do look like soldiers from one of the northern units. Some of the soldiers agree that Sam even looks vaguely familiar to them. As Sam and Lirael approach, one of the soldiers senses Charter magic, but assumes it is a protective charm. Tindall touches his sword to Sam's forehead to check for the Charter mark. Sam suggests Tindall do the same to Lirael, who is wounded, so they can get her inside for care.

Sam demands to use their phone to call his commanding officer. Tindall tells him their phone is out. This puts Tindall on high...
