Chapter 14 Summary

A group of travelers witness the huge owl flying with a man in her claws. One of the travelers tells the others that the owl was accompanied by a flying dog. As Lirael sees the wall ahead, she gets excited and plans to land. Sam warns against her crossing over the wall. At the last minute, Lirael adjusts to land them, but she lands them hard on the ground.

They think they have beat Hedge and the barges but not by much. Sam says he thinks he can open one of the locked gates at the Crossing Point to get them inside the wall and Ancelstierre. Sam says he will cast illusions so that he and Lirael look like soldiers. Mogget can hide in Sam's pack and Sam will cast an illusion on Dog to make her look like a sniffer dog.
