Chapter 8 Summary

Sam can feel and hear something trying to sneak up behind him. He prepares his sword and himself for what might strike out at him. When Sam charges what is coming toward him, he sees it is a strange, pallid, little man. The man disappears. Then, Sam hears Mogget talking from behind him. Mogget says the man was him but it is a forbidden form, so he has turned back into the cat. Mogget gets back inside Sam's pack and tells him to wake him when they get somewhere dry that has food.

When Lirael and the Dog return, a Fifth Gate being tries to bite Lirael, but she says she is just bruised. Lirael and Dog find out Mogget has returned. They verify that the cat is still on their side and willing to help them in their journey. They decide to...
