Prologue Summary

The fog is rolling into the city of Corvere. King Touchstone is standing inside of the castle. Touchstone's wife, Sabriel, is writing a letter to an old school friend. Touchstone still feels a little shock at seeing his wife dressed in Ancelstierran clothing. Sabriel insists they must attend the garden party of Corolini, which seems to be the opposing party to that of King Touchstone.

As Sabriel puts on her coat and boots, she talks with her husband about how close she is to forming an alliance against Corolini. Touchstone spends his time making sure his pistols are loaded and ready for the party, just in case.
