Tattoos

Each prisoner of Namwon and the other prisons has a permanent tattoo that symbolizes they are a prisoner. The tattoo is adjusted once the person is lawfully released, but the tattoo remains a symbol that the person is a criminal. That means everyone, including potential employers, has this information at a glance. Pong's tattoo is covered by the strings Father Cham gives him.

Father Cham's Bracelets

Father Cham's Bracelets are symbols of Father's Cham's blessings. Some of these are in the form of strings, and others are red and gold strands braided together. For Pong, the bracelets serve the additional purpose of hiding his prison tattoo.

When the Governor and the people clash on Giant's Bridge, the people of the West Side close their windows, a symbol they do not want to know that is happening.
