Book 5: Chapter 38 Summary

Ginny first notices that every window in Rose's house is lit, and all are dark in the Chelsea, where Jess is now living. Rose has been drinking and cleaning. She curses Pete for the pain he's caused Pammy and Linda. She and Ginny go out to stand in the middle of the road under the stars, where Rose speaks of how it had been between Pete and her—she'd only wanted someone to erase her father—it had never been good between them.

Rose says she's tempted to just walk inside the Chelsea. Ginny asks why. To sleep with Jess, Rose confides to the stricken Ginny, who was only the second lover she'd taken since marrying Pete but the first one she'd trusted, although they've only been sleeping together 3 weeks. She sees her.....
