Book 2: Chapter 12 Summary

Jess arrives for dinner unannounced the next evening. Rose calls to say she's picking up the girls the next morning; Ginny invites Rose and Pete over. The five—the next generation, except Loren and Caroline—begin a game of Monopoly that lasts for two weeks. Both Jess and Pete entertain the others with their exotic adventures outside Zebulon County. Ginny rediscovers Pete's intellect and wit. Larry purchases new kitchen cabinets he doesn't need and leaves them outside—despite the others offers of help—to be ruined by the downpour. Pammy tells Ginny that Rose left instructions not to let Larry into their house if no other adults were present.
