Book 2: Chapter 9 Summary

That Thursday, Ginny drives Rose to her 3-month appointment with her Mason City oncologist, whose assessment is good. Ginny and an elated Rose go clothes shopping and then plan to eat out—Rose exclaims she wants meat. Rose enters a dressing room with her limit, four dresses and exits tired. Ginny drives her home.

Book 2: Chapter 9 Analysis

Rose is subdued by her reflection in the dressing room mirror. Ginny is pained to see Rose nervously grab for missing muscle tissue—radical mastectomies were the norm—more concerned for her loss of function than appearance. She recognizes that, although inexplicable, their bond was deep.
