Book 1: Chapter 7 Summary

After church, Ginny and Ty change into their everyday clothes before going over to Larry's house. Ginny finds Jess alone in the kitchen. Ty takes the pickup to find the others. Sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee, Jess brings up her father's announcement at the pig roast, contrasting Pete's subsequent well-thought out ideas with the absence of conversation between his father Harold and brother Loren. Jess mentions having spent the previous 13 years running an organic grocery, discusses his shallow understanding of Buddhism, and admits the only reason for his presence in church that morning was that he knew to keep quiet about his own religious views.

Ginny sees the others coming in from the field, a tableau of hope, which includes Pammy and Linda peering at a ditch. Larry continues lording.....
