Summary

In Part 3, Chapter 5, Andrei narrates the many aspects of life in Moscow that he still enjoys, such as spending time with Yulia. In some ways, he feels increasingly at home in Moscow. Andrei and Yulia discuss their relationship again, and Andrei says he will remain in Russia to be with her. In Chapter 6, during the summer, Yulia shows Andrei parts of the city that he has not seen yet. Russia’s economy begins to enter a recession, and there are notable instances of protests by laborers. Andrei continues to participate in October’s small protests. Andrei’s general feelings of contentment are later slightly deflated due to multiple chance encounters with anti-Semites in public places.
