Summary

Chapter 11 is titled “Magiclexia.” Madame Weatherberry receives another of the mysterious letters at lunch and quickly leaves the table. The students wait outside and Lucy distances herself from the others. Brystal joins her and provides some information about the other students, satisfying Lucy's curiosity about them. Lucy wonders what Xanthous was doing when his father began beating him, but Brystal does not know. When Madame Weatherberry joins them, she is wearing a gown made of clocks. She leads them to realize that the only difference between a wound and a scar is time, and says the same is true of weakness and strength, and hatred and love. Their first assignment is to change their appearances to match what they feel about themselves, regardless of their pasts or what others have made them feel. Emerelda goes first and she is soon wearing a robe...
