Summary

Milly travels from her village to Mumbai, where she arrives at the home of her new employers, Jayant Vachani and his wife Hemali. The Vachanis live in a large house and employ several guards around the premises. After a few months in her new position, she realizes that her employers have never allowed her to leave the building. She tries to leave the house one day, but a guard stops her, saying that he has been ordered not to let her leave the house. Hemali says that Milly will cause trouble if she goes out into the surrounding area. She begins to feel trapped and claustrophobic in the house. She calls Sabina on the phone and explains the situation, but Sabina says that she should not complain, as her situation could be much worse.
