Chapters 23-26 Summary

Over dinner Candy tells Spenser that Brewster has mob connections and that Franco is blackmailing him, threatening to tell the police. Brewster is to meet with Franco the following night. Candy is to have dinner with Brewster the following night as well so she suggests that if she can find out where the meeting is to be, she and Spenser can follow. Spenser says that Brewster will probably take someone with him, maybe his security man, and kill Franco. Candy is overconfident that Brewster would never think of killing her. Candy believes she is an asset to Brewster because she has convinced him she loves him. Spenser is concerned for her safety just the same.
