Summary

In Chapter 6, during the night that Etsuko babysat Mariko, Mariko left the house. Etsuko found her by the woods. Mariko asked her if she would adopt her pet kittens, since Sachiko said that they would not be able to take them to America. Etsuko replied that she could not adopt the kittens. Later, Sachiko arrived home and argued in front of Etsuko. Mariko said that she hated Frank and did not want to go to America. Sachiko then told Etsuko that she found Frank and that Frank had reneged on his promise to take Sachiko and Mariko to America. Sachiko said that she would write to her uncle and ask if she and Mariko could reside in his large house. The narrative then shifts back to the England storyline.
