Summary

Prologue – At the age of thirty, Saroo stands at the home he left at the age of five. All of the members of his birth family are gone. Saroo no longer speaks Hindi, so he does his best to communicate with a young woman who lives next door. She speaks some in English. Saroo shows her a picture of him and his family when he was younger. The woman tells him that his family no longer lives in the house. Another man approaches. Once again, Saroo explains that he is looking for his mother, Kamla, his brothers, Guddu and Kallu, and his sister, Shekila. The man tells Saroo he will take Saroo to Kamla.
