Summary

The Carswell prison where Genice was sentenced completely lacked the medical facilities to care for her, because she was paralyzed. Only days after her arrival, prison aides broke Genice’s ankle while trying to roll her out of bed. They then attempted to place Genice in a sling above her bed, but it was not fastened correctly and she broke her tailbone. The prison doctors at the Carswell Federal Medical Center claimed that treatment was unnecessary because Genice could not feel the injury. Former doctors and healthcare workers have spoken out on the extreme cruelty and corruption in the Carswell Federal Medical Center, including sexual abuse of the incarcerated women and failure to provie their prescribed medicatoins.
