Chapter 14 Summary

Aunt Lucy is going to marry Teacher Holt. The couple shares the good news with the Halls after they announce it in the Shipman family. When Cassie, Catherine, and Sophy begin talking about how much happier Aunt Lucy appears to be, Sophy explodes in rage. Sophy's anger is caused by her fear that when she leaves for the mills, Catherine and Cassie will forget about her. Both girls promise that they will not forget her. A friendship is developing between Joshua and Catherine as Joshua continues to make himself available at the schoolhouse when school is dismissed.
