Chapter 11 Summary

This chapter contains many firsts for Catherine, starting with meeting her first Jew. She buys some sewing items from the peddler and even learns a lesson about pricing from him. As Catherine waits in anticipation of Ann and Daniel's arrival, her father shares with her letters that Ann has written. It is clear that Ann does not want to hurt Catherine's feelings on matters of the household, so Ann sends a letter with many questions. Catherine's father suggests that Catherine send her own reply with him when he returns to Boston for the wedding. Mr. Hall has a new jacket made by the seamstress, which Catherine feels is unnecessary. When Catherine sees her father wearing it, she is happy for him because he looks very good in her opinion.
