Denver

Denver, and Denver County, Colorado, serve as the setting for much of the novel. Lucas and his mom live in the City of Denver in Denver County. There, Lucas attends pre-med classes and works at the VA Hospital, while Mom attends treatment and therapy at the VA Hospital. It is in Denver in an abandoned crawlspace that Lucas first finds Bella, where she is born among a colony of cats. It is in Denver that Lucas attempts to save the other cats, going up against Gunter to try to do so. Gunter then seeks to get to Lucas by going after Bella using the laws of Denver. It is from Denver that Bella is taken to live with a foster family, until Bella decides she will begin the journey home to get back to Lucas.
