France

Matthew's vampire mother lives in France, and this is where Matthew and Diana go when it becomes clear that Diana is not safe in Oxford. There are extensive descriptions of the country, including Sept-Tours, where Matthew's vampire mother lives. Their house is really a castle, but Diana notes that it is not a pretty dwelling like those typically featured in fairy tales. Instead, it was built to be a fortress.
