Summary

In Chapter 14, Matthew picks up Diana and takes her to his room at All Souls College on the Oxford campus. He has a private wine cellar and shows Diana his collection as he chooses wine for dinner. Diana is clearly curious about his time at Oxford and Matthew lists the various colleges within Oxford where he has worked. Diana does not ask, but knows he has spent time at other major universities as well. They eat and talk, often about the food and wine, and Diana asks Matthew what she would taste like. She says it in a “playful” (174) tone, but Matthew is immediately on his feet. He has a furious look on his face. He says he can hear the blood in her veins.
