Chapters 44 through 66 Summary

In Chapter Forty-four, Gonle Fong is a Qeng Ho who had joined the mission to the On/Off Star with the idea that there were profits to be made. With the Emergents' take-over of the mission, she's given up on that idea but has made acceptable profits, considering that she is a basically a slave to the Emergents. Gonle is among those invited to Thomas's house at the lake park for a meeting where it's revealed that the Spiders have a satellite orbiting the planet, a product of the Kindred. They know that the Spiders will have a computer network within the next five years and the plan had been to interact with them through that, but now there's talk of moving that deadline up. Thomas says that they'll make contact within a year and that he plans to bring everyone...
