Chapter 9 through 19 Summary

In Chapter Nine, Ezr awakes to find Thomas Nau and Anne Reynolt at his bedside. Nau tells Ezr that he's to become the new fleet manager for the Qeng Ho. Ezr learns that the majority of senior crew members who were not killed in the attack are being held in coldsleep. He learns that others have been "focused" to work on specific projects and problems. The next day, Ezr is visited again by Nau who says that the Emergents are not in good shape following the fight with the Qeng Ho. Nau says that the Emergents can return to their home planet but that they'd have to do so "empty-handed." He points out the progress being made on an operation to mine huge diamond mountains.

In Chapter Ten, Ezr takes over duties as fleet manager and the Emergents slowly back off...
