Summary

In Part 8, Chapter 1, Alucard has trouble sleeping. He watches Lila in the morning light and regrets ever teaching her magic or training her in the previous two novels. He is thinking about all that she has cost him when Kell confronts him, saying that Alucard knew from the beginning that Lila was also an Antari but kept it to himself. Kell also confronts Alucard about why he left Rhy previously. Alucard explains that his father beat him up for sleeping with Rhy and then his brother Berras sent him out to sea. He protests that he would never have left if he realized that Rhy truly loved him. Just then, the Ghost passes through the remnants of a ship that was attacked by the marauding mercenaries the Sea Serpents, worrying the group about their own safety.
