Summary

Sylvie worries about a Spanish invasion as she pictures another St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre. Queen Elizabeth’s enemies had shifted from a secret conspiracy to open action. The king of Spain is assembling an armada after the death of Mary Stuart. The Pope had been so shocked by her death that he had promised a million gold ducats toward the cost of war against Europe. Ned knew about the armada, but now everyone in England knows. King Felipe is gathering hundreds of ships, thousands of soldiers, and millions of tons of provisions.
