Chapters 1-4 Summary

A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb tells the story of a ghost named Helen. Stuck between life and death, she clings to her hosts and immerses herself in literature until one day, she discovers that a student can see her. The two bond, and Helen learns there is a lot more to life than what she knows of death.

Chapter 1 - A dead woman is in the classroom with her teacher, Mr. Brown. She is writing invisible comments on the students' papers. She notes that even though he doesn't know of her existence, the teacher sometimes uses her own words. She wonders if she somehow influences his mind. She gets the feeling that someone is watching her, although she knows that nobody can see her. Looking around, she notices that the eyes belong to a young man who looks just like everybody else...
