Chapters 31, 32 & 33 Summary

The political prisoners are released and Adano looks beautiful. The streets have recently been cleaned and the weather is perfect. The men walk down the street, but they do not run when they see the group of women who have come to see them. The streets of Adano have become electrified, but while the men know that there is certainly a woman waiting for them, the women are not certain who is still left alive. For this reason, they run to the men, searching for their loved ones. Tina is among the women, but her search is fruitless. Joppolo watches as one of the men looks at her and shakes his head and she finds out that her lover is dead. Joppolo walks over and takes her hand, despite the fact that they are in public.
