Chapter 7, 8 & 9 Summary

At the Command Post, a man named Captain Purvis tells his Technical Sergeant Frank Trapani that he thinks Joppolo is crazy for ignoring an order from General Marvin. He doesn't think that Joppolo is right, although Trapani tells him that the order was a silly one. Purvis has only been in the military for eight months and is very "military." He writes a report in order to protect himself and sends it to General Marvin.

Meanwhile, Major Joppolo asks Guiseppe about Tina and finds out that her father is Tomasino, the most respected fisherman in the area. Tomasino refuses to see Major Joppolo so the Major travels to see him instead. For the people of Adano, this is an unheard of event; no government figure has ever gone to visit a local person.
