Leo

Leo is 21 years old and describes himself as a hippy. Physically, he is described as both lanky and fit, which is an appropriate description for a young man that recently finished biking 4000 miles across the country. During his time on the road, Leo witnessed his best friend, Micah, die in an accident. Leo spends much of the play both consciously and subconsciously grappling with this recent trauma.

Clues to his struggle surface throughout the earlier part of the play. He is barely able to discuss Micah’s death, except in bits and pieces, until Bec arrives in Scene Four. However, it is clear that his friend is on the forefront of his mind; even in the first three scenes, Leo finds a way to integrate Micah into his conversations with Vera. Micah’s presence is undoubtedly felt throughout the course of the play through Leo’s interactions.
