Summary

Chapter 4.4 returns to timeline number four. Ferguson continues to pursue his interest in writing fiction. He writes short stories and keeps notebooks of ideas and descriptions. He also diligently reads classic literature. In the wake of Liz Schneiderman’s death, Rose marries Dan Schneiderman, thus making Ferguson the stepbrother of Amy and Jim. However, Ferguson still feels attracted to Amy. For a brief period of time in high school, Ferguson dates Dana Rosenbloom, who is from South Africa and whose family fled to the United States to escape political unrest. Ferguson decides that his pen name will be Isaac Ferguson, as Isaac is his middle name. The summer after his sophomore year of high school, Ferguson works for a moving company to raise money for his college education.
