Chapter 5, Out of the Ice Summary

Sir Lawrence watches a planetarium show that Dr. Hessenstein puts on in honor of Sir Lawrence's sixtieth birthday. The show follows the history of space exploration from the Chinese point of view, to where a spaceship named the Tsien flies to the Jupiter moon, Europa. Upon landing on the moon to take on water, which is used as fuel, the crew encounters a deadly life form that resembles seaweed. Dr. Rupert Chang broadcasts his observations of the life form, which does not do well in the freezing temperatures but does seek out the light from the lamps that the crew has set up.
