Summary

Elizabeth takes the dry cleaner tag into the Fit4U outlet near the outskirts of town and hands it to the clerk who disappears with it. She’d found the stub in the Gucci knockoff purse that she picked up from the police station. The woman behind the counter takes the ticket from her and looking around, Elizabeth has trouble imagining her mother coming into this place as the woman disappears into the back. Elizabeth waits for at least an hour, smokes almost half a dozen cigarettes in her mother’s Taurus and tries not to think. She doesn’t want to think about the call from the funeral director telling her she can pick her mother up anytime.
