Summary

In Chapter 5, Jake ran into the Yellow Card Man and scared him when he returned to 1958. Jake noticed the conversation was slightly different from his first visit and wondered if perhaps the man was suffering some effects from hanging out too close to the what Al had chosen to call the rabbit hole. The man told Jake, “Fuck off, Jimla!” and Jake noticed his card was no longer yellow but orange (131).

Jake stopped for another root beer before buying a suitcase, getting a haircut, setting up a checking account, and getting new clothes. He messed up the first time he tried to call a taxi and used a 2002 dime. The pay phone did not recognize the coin and spit it back out but Jake wondered what might have happened if it had gotten stuck. He also noticed he had his cell phone...
