About the Author

Born to Wilfred and Lilla Taylor on June 17, 1949, British author Celia Rees grew up in the borough of Solihull, England.

Upon graduation from secondary school, the author studied at Warwick University, earning a degree in history and politics; she then attended West Midlands College, where she received a teaching certificate, and Birmingham University, where she completed a master's degree in education. In between her studies, Rees married university lecturer Terence Rees in 1972. The couple have a daughter, Catrin, and live in Leamington Spa, England.

While employed as a teacher, Rees initially taught history classes before changing to English, and it was after this transition that Rees began her own writing. Rees once noted that while she was teaching English, her students seemed taken with American young adult authors, including Judy Blume,.....
