Abridged audio book versions of all of the volumes of The Lord of the Rings, including The Return of the King, have been released on both compact disc and cassette by Random House Audio (2001). An unabridged version, read by Rob Inglis for Recorded Books Unabridged, also appeared in 2001. A live-action version of TheReturn of the King, directed by Peter Jackson, has been completed and scheduled for a December 2003 release at the time of this writing.
