The Little Drummer Girl narrates many bomb explosions: Bonn, Zurich, Leyden, Bad Godesberg among them, with all the immediacy of a newscast.

Le Carre has both an Israeli and a Palestinian hero, but his originality lies in showing the humanity of both sides.
