Reviewers either love or hate this series, and detractors cite the fast pace and lack of attention to detail in parts of the world-building as faults. The symbolism of the colors is never explained in one place or even completely in this first book. Readers have to piece together bits of information and details from all six books to gain a more complete understanding of this fantasy world and the motivations of the characters.
