Dicey's Song About the Author
Cynthia Voigt was born on February 25, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Frederick C. and Elise Keeney Irving. The second of five children in an affluent family, Voigt attended private boarding school and graduated from Smith College in 1963. After working as a secretary for a New York advertising agency, she married her first husband, a teacher, in 1964, and the couple moved to New Mexico. Unable to find secretarial work, she became a teacher and has enthusiastically taught English since then. Voigt and her husband divorced in 1972, and she moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where she now lives. She teaches part-time at The Key School, where she met her second husband, Walter Voigt, a Latin and Greek teacher. Voigt has two children and devotes much of her time to her family.
